Happy New Year

So being in an industry that is artistic and having a true appreciation for the unique things in life, I have always wanted to wish my fellow colleagues in the industry the happiest of holidays in a bit of a different fashion. This year, I feel as if I succeeded with the kind help of Hullabaloo Studios here in Maine. The owner created the most wonderful New Year's cards, as shown, for me to send out to some of my dear friends and colleagues in the industry and I could not have been more pleased with the final product. For those vendors who happen to be dropping into this blog that I may not know, I also wish you a blissful bouquet of happiness in 2010. For those who happen to be getting engaged (Congratulations!) and possibly getting married in Maine, there is no better place as each season is so very magical, and of course, as I believe, there is no better element to showcase this than flowers.
Here's to a wonderful turn of a decade...
Best,
Emily

Creating Inspiration

Inspiration boards are a wonderful thing.
I recently have been asked to be in a photo shoot and I have to say, not only is it an honor, but is so much fun to truly be artistic and to brainstorm wildly about color palettes, linens, vases, etc... (the list truly could go on and on). It is almost like I have the feeling of "the world is my oyster", though in reality, I am simply a guest on their beach for this shoot. All the same, it is exhilarating to go down various artistic design paths, utilize unique flowers and to have such a wonderful opportunity. I hope to share the images in the Spring via my blog and website.
All the best and happy holidays.

November for brides

Well, I have to say that I am surprised that more brides do not get married in Maine in November. Sure you never know if you are going to have a slight snow shower or a gray day, but that is about half of the year!! There are so many wonderful color palettes that you could take from nature during this month and even the bareness of the trees creates such a wonderful sense of drama. It is one of my favorite times of year to take on a more organic style of design for bouquets and centerpieces.
On the note of centerpieces, I wish everyone a healthy and happy Thanksgiving.

Recent wedding

Sometimes brides come to me and tell me that in no way do they want a rose anywhere in their wedding flowers. I do understand as roses can be seen as a bit overdone; however, there are so many different types of roses that I think that many, in fact most brides would retract their statement of dislike after seeing the more extravagant rose varieties that the floral world has to offer. A recent bride enabled me to showcase a few of these within her all rose bouquet and she was thrilled with the end result on her wedding day. Roses are a wonderful option, available all year round in Maine and they are always coming out with new varieties. Just something to keep in mind as you think about your likes/dislikes within the world of flowers!

Just going through some of the images that photographers have graciously sent me and this is one of my favorites. I think that this bouquet encompasses so much of the natural beauty of the flowers which can not always be seen. Poppies, fiddleheads and ferns definitely make this bouquet a "Maine bouquet". It is wonderful at the end of the season to go through and look at all of the floral images in a new light...

Thanks to so many...

I hope that all is well with both all of the brides who kindly invited me to be apart of their wedding day this season, but also to all of my fellow wedding vendors. This season was one to remember with amazing flowers, unique designs and wonderful co-workers. Designing wedding flowers in New England is quite an honor... so many beautiful flowers to work with, both locally grown and from other parts of the world as well. I feel very fortunate to be apart of such a wonderful network of friends and vendors in the industry that are such a pleasure to be with weekend after weekend. Special thanks to Jason at Newagen, Diane York, Meghan Rathmell with BMerry Events and many many others. I hope to have new images on my site within the next month as well as a new generation of my portfolio. Many thanks to all the photographers who have generously given me stunning images from various weddings.
So, here I go, into the blogging world..wish me luck (and time to keep up with it!)
All the best...
