Holiday Party Flowers

When I think of holiday parties, I do not just think of typical evergreens etc., but really more of simply a vibrant color palette of sorts. I was contacted by a local business owner in Portland to do some funky designs for her company holiday party at Portland's Empire Dine and Dance. It was the Coffee By Design holiday party so I coordinated with the owner to get some great burlap bags from her that the beans come in from Brazil and Columbia. They had amazing designs on them so I cut the burlap designs to cover the glass containers..it turned out to be a really nice personal touch for the party. The lighting was really awful for pictures, but great location...this is the best that I could get which is too bad as they were really interesting designs..enjoy these few shotty images and Happy Holidays!!

Thanksgiving flowers

I took these images from a recent Thanksgiving installation that I did in Yarmouth...I want these containers..distressed terracotta on wonderful wrought iron stands. This client had a perfect Thanksgiving table that her father had made..and the perfect colors throughout her house for Thanksgiving. As we laughed about her "Thanksgiving house", she was wondering how she felt about the coral peonies within the design. I had her keep them as I thought that they went so nicely with the satsumas on the branch and the pomagrantes that I placed on the table and created a nice unexpected pop of vibrant color for the holiday. I had to laugh on Thanksgiving day as I watched the NBC Macy's Day Parade when some of the exact flowers in front of Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera were what I used within this design..namely, the coral peonies!!! I hope that you had a great holiday Jone's family...I look forward to the wedding this summer!

Fall Wedding Flowers

November 13th...A small wedding today, just personal flowers, but all the same a lovely bride and once again, Maine weather really came through... not a cloud in the sky and 66 degrees..in the middle of November! While waiting for the bride's father to pick up the flowers, I shot these few images...

re: MadGirl Fashion Show

Meredith Alex went mad again recently at the Port City Music Hall in Portland for a fashion show with the theme of " Hunt, Prey, Lust". I feel honored to have been asked to be a part of it. I actually was in NYC when the event transpired, so my wonderful associate set up the designs and shot some images...here goes..

NYC marathon

Well, I have gone missing again for a little bit, but not without good reason. I have been tied up in projects here and there and the occasional wedding and, well, I ran in the NYC marathon. I try not to write about much personal in my blog, but really, this was so monumental in my life, that I can not help but to blog about it as well. I have been a runner for most of my life and after 20 years, I was in need of a grand finale and what better finale than the NYC marathon. It was amazing and aside from marrying an amazing husband many years ago and having my two unbelievable children..well let's just way it was up there in the highlights of my life for sure. I was so fortunate to be a part of a wonderful organization, Fred's Team, which enabled me to run the marathon. Fred's Team raised over $4 million that has gone directly to the Sloan Kettering Cancer Research Center...I feel honored to have been able to help and contribute to the dream of the eradication of cancer. I was supported by Fred's Team of course the day of; however, my family was amazing throughout my journey and right up until the end. My kind mother mothered my children in Maine, my father idly sitting by his computer and the TV to watch my every mile, and my dearest flower covered brother watched at various pit stops throughout the race (pictures will have to be in a blog at some point!) with last, but so very not finally least, my simply outstanding husband who supported my every step throughout my training and race. I feel so fortunate to have been able to make this dream a reality and feel even more fortunate to have such a wonderful family.
I guess that that is probably one of the many reasons why I love what I do. I still believe in the institution of marriage and family. I have been blessed with a wonderful support system (they are all crazy and so very imperfect, but who in life is not just that). And eight years ago, I became the luckiest woman to have enriched my life even more by marrying my husband. For lack of leaving out a cliche in this very sappy blog, "..he completes me..", but better than that, makes me a better person. So when we live in a world where the statistics do not look so hot for the institution of marriage, I still have great hope for that bond and the life of a family.
Anywho,,, now I will update you on the more professional details of weddings, fashion shows and images soon to come of some personal flower installations...
All the best,
Emily

re: Long Cove Barn wedding

Well, it is actually more of a meeting house, but once transformed it really had kind of a barn feeling. For the past year, I had the pleasure of working with a lovely bride from Switzerland and her wedding was stunning this past weekend at Long Cove Point Beach. She had a very vintage feel using my rented silver and a dual burlap and green runner on the long tables. It looked beautiful. Her bouquet was so much fun to detail with the vintage lace, purchased at a great flea market and the blue satin for her something blue. I only hope to now visit her in Switzerland! Congratulations Ali!!
